Press release

Care to Translate is proud to announce its first Italian customer, Sapienza University, with the affiliated Policlinico Umberto I Hospital, one of the largest hospitals in Italy. This collaboration involves the implementation of Care to Translate’s medical translation app in three key units within the hospital’s Gynecology Department: the Units of Surgical and Oncological Gynecology, Reproductive Medicine, and Obstetrics.

These units face significant challenges in communicating with patients who do not speak Italian, which happens on a daily basis. Until now, patients often had to rely on their partner or family members, such as fathers, to translate during consultations, raising concerns about patient confidentiality and the accuracy of medical information shared. With Care to Translate, Sapienza University and Policlinico Umberto I aim to provide more effective and confidential communication for patients, ensuring they receive accurate medical care without the need for non-professional interpreters.

Maria Grazia Porpora, Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Sapienza University, shared her thoughts on the collaboration:

"We see a significant number of patients who do not speak Italian, and this language barrier has often posed challenges in delivering the best care. Care to Translate offers a professional and confidential solution, giving our patients a better experience and ensuring their privacy is respected."

"We initially trialed the app during a thesis project for the Degree in Obstetrics, focusing on language barriers in our gynecology and obstetrics clinic. The results demonstrated its potential in this area, leading us to expand its use."

Innocenza Palaia, Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Sapienza University, foresees a major impact of Care to Translate in the Gynecology Department:

“We are excited to see the positive impact it will have on our units over the long term.”

Maja Magnusson, CEO of Care to Translate, also commented:

"This collaboration with Sapienza University is particularly meaningful as it marks our first customer in Italy, a country where we have seen growing interest in our solutions."

"By integrating Care to Translate into these key gynecology units, we aim to support both healthcare providers and patients in overcoming language barriers, leading to better and more inclusive care."

Care to Translate has collaborated with several organizations throughout Italy, but this collaboration with Sapienza University and Policlinico Umberto I represents its first customer within the country. The implementation of the translation app is set to significantly improve communication between medical staff and non-Italian-speaking patients, addressing the hospital’s ongoing needs for a reliable, confidential, and efficient translation solution.
