Improved offline mode - to help you fight language barriers during bad internet connection

That's why we recommend everyone using Care to Translate to explore offline mode in the settings of the app. But what is offline mode?

No lagging with offline mode

Offline mode lets you download the entire phrase library in the language of your choice to your device. This means no lagging or pausing whenever you happen to be in a place with bad internet connection. 

In short, the app's core functionality (accessing playlists, searching for phrases and playing phrases in a target language) is fully functional in offline environments with offline mode, provided that you have downloaded the audio on a previous occasion when you were online.

And now, we’ve taken offline mode a step further…

No more “all or nothing”

Up until now, using offline mode has meant downloading the entire phrase library for the language you want to access. This can take up a lot of storage, as well as take some time. But most people don’t need to access thousands of phrases offline. Cue the new and improved offline mode. 

You can now choose to only download the phrases in your private or shared playlists, in the language of your choice. This makes downloads faster and it saves you storage space on your device. 

By default, only the audio for your private or shared playlists are now downloaded when you toggle a language under the offline settings. But don’t worry, you can of course still choose to have the entire library available offline. Just deactivate the toggle under Offline languages (as shown below).

• Searching through all phrases
• Viewing phrase translations in the selected target language
• Playing phrase sounds (if previously downloaded through settings for the selected language)
• Interpreter services
• Accessibility settings: audio playback speed, text size
