Pressrelease

In a significant step towards breaking the language barriers in healthcare, Care to Translate is proud to announce our new partnership with Medicina e Assistenza ai Margini (MAM), a respected non-profit organization dedicated to providing essential health services to vulnerable populations in Italy and abroad.

Medicina e Assistenza ai Margini (MAM) is deeply committed to the health and well-being of Rome's most vulnerable. Since February 2021, their MAMbulatorio at Casa Scalabrini in Rome has been a lifeline for those without access to the national health system. Volunteer doctors provide basic medical care and collect donated medicines. Beyond Italy, MAM's commitment extends to international humanitarian efforts, such as their solidarity mission ”Cherry in the desert", held annually in Saharawi refugee camps in Algeria where they provide support through medical and social care.

Care to Translate's innovative medical interpreter will be used to enhance MAM’s medical missions, ensuring clear and precise communication between healthcare professionals and the patients they serve, including a significant Bengali-speaking immigrant population in Rome.

"Effective communication is vital in healthcare, especially in humanitarian settings where language barriers can be a significant obstacle," said Maja Magnusson, CEO of Care to Translate.

"Our technology not only breaks down these barriers but does so effectively with features like offline functionality, which is essential in many of the settings MAM works in”.

"The Care to Translate app will be so useful for our operations, especially because of its offline capabilities and the availability of Bengali, a critical need in Rome given that Italy has the second-largest Bengali population in Europe," said Valeria Cortella, Director of MAM.

"We appreciate how this tool will help us provide better, culturally competent care to the diverse populations we serve."

Medicina e Assistenza ai Margini has been a beacon of hope for the marginalized communities, providing comprehensive healthcare solutions, including medical, psychological, and nutritional support. With the support of Care to Translate’s app, the reach and effectiveness of these efforts can be increased even further providing the care patients deserve.
